UK eSIM plans
Compare UK eSIM data plans and learn why EU 'roam like at home' doesn't cover the UK, which UK networks to know, and how much data you need.
If you're coming from the EU, don't assume your phone plan covers the UK. Since Brexit it depends on your carrier.
EU roaming doesn't automatically cover the UK
The EU's 'roam like at home' rules no longer apply to the UK, which is now a third country. Many EU operators still include the UK in their Europe roaming zone, but they do it voluntarily and can change it. Check whether your carrier's Europe zone explicitly lists the UK before you travel.
If it doesn't, or if you're coming from outside Europe, a UK eSIM is usually much cheaper than roaming.
UK networks
The main UK networks are EE, O2, Vodafone and Three. Coverage is good in cities and along major routes; in the Scottish Highlands, Wales and other rural areas it can be patchy, so download offline maps before you go.
How much data do you need in the UK?
For maps, transport apps and messaging, about 0.5–1 GB a day is enough. For a week in London, a 5–10 GB plan usually covers it.
