Thailand eSIM plans
Compare Thailand eSIM data plans and learn the 2026 SIM registration rules for foreigners, airport SIM options at Suvarnabhumi, and how much data you need.
Thailand tightened its SIM card rules for foreigners in May 2026. A travel eSIM installed before you fly lets you skip the airport counter and the paperwork.
New SIM card rules for foreigners (May 2026)
Since 16 May 2026, people without Thai nationality can register at most three SIM cards per mobile operator. Registration is done in person at a shop or authorised dealer, mainly with your passport, and the SIM has to be activated within 60 days.
These rules cover Thai SIM cards. A travel eSIM you buy before your trip works as roaming and doesn't need Thai registration.
Tourist SIM at Suvarnabhumi Airport
AIS, True (TrueMove H) and dtac have booths in the arrivals hall on level 2 of Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport. Staff register the SIM with your passport and install it for you. Booth packages usually cost more than the same operators charge at 7-Eleven or in a mall shop in town.
- Choose a travel eSIM if you want to be online the moment you land and skip the registration queue.
- Choose a Thai SIM if you need a local number, for example for Grab, food delivery or longer stays.
How much data do you need in Thailand?
For maps, Grab and messaging, about 1 GB a day is enough. Island hopping and video calls use more, so for two weeks a 10–20 GB plan is a good fit.
